With her first comics stories, young swedish author Joanna Hellgren has arousen a great interest in the public and French BD world. Her albums Mon frère nocturne and Frances have been published in 2008 by Cambourakis.
The strength of this author, which has shown an extraordinary maturity, both graphic and textual, lies in her capacity of exploring the depths of unconscious of the characters, revealing their innermost dimension. In both her works, Joanna Hellgren faces with great sensibility the themes of pain, lost and childhood, that emerges also from her personal style in combining text and pictures.
Mon frère nocturne was selected for the 2009 edition of the Angoulême comics festival, and Frances, the first episode of a series that will be composed of at least three volumes, was nominated for the 2009 Artémisia award.
The exhibition at RAM Hotel gallery is going to include some of her most recent works, images from her two albums published by Cambourakis and illustrations for childhood.
