The territory explored by Italian artist Davide Zucco (alias Rekal), is made of opposites and marked dichotomies: the good and the evil, light and dark, the marvellous and the terrible. These elements live together in an imaginary that flows from a kafkian metamorphism and Jodorowsky’s psychology to folk-pop street culture
His research pivots on a severe critic of contemporary society, of which he says: “I think it has a lot to do with the relationship between human beings and Nature, between individuals and community. A kind of intrinsic conflict that lies at the base of society. And that it’s getting into a rather insane way…”.
Zucco was born at Belluno in 1981 and is known internationally thanks to his many attendances at the best contemporary art fairs. He participated at many personal and collective exhibitions and in 2009 wins the first edition of the contest "CO.CO.CO.- Como Contemporary Contest". He published covers for the albums of the Tuma (Uncolored) and ENT (Cohai) and is also published in "Illusive. Contemporary Illustration Part 3" edited by R. Klanten and H. Hellige, (2009), a compilation of world’s best contemporary illustration talents, in "Street sketchbook" by Tristan Manco, edited by Thames & Hudson and in "-30: pratiche pittoriche in Italia" Andrea Bruciati, edited by Vanillaedizioni.
At Bilbolbul the artist is going to present a selection of illustrations from “25 disegni, Dem-Rekal” (a Zooo/Donna Bavosa/Modo Infoshop self-production, 2008) and big format works.
