An exhibition for children and adults, dedicated to the children comic book “I gioielli di Elsa” (Elsa’s jewels) by Sarah Mazzetti (Canicola, 2017). The book tells the story of little Elsa’s rise to the top – thanks to an invention born while playing – the sudden fall of her career and a symbolic journey through the woods, which will lead to the rediscovery of herself and of her childhood. The work is scattered with quotes that come from a deep graphic and artistic culture and from the artist’s declared love to Disney. The legacy of the greatest illustrators and masters of children comic books, from Antonio Rubino to Winsor McCay, from Grazia Nidasio to Lyonel Feininger merge with the contemporary drawing experimental scene: Brecht Vandenbroucke, Blexbolex and Pendleton Ward from Adventure Time. The author skillfully uses red and green colors to tell her stories; the works denote an extraordinary compositional effect, while the line is soft and elegant.  In a world of grotesque characters, the style and the attention to details are the things that shower a pedagogical role, stimulating the pleasure of discovery.
The original pieces of art  and unreleased preparatory material will be displayed, together with a work that will be realized by Sarah for this specific occasion.

The volume was created in collaboration with  the festival Uovo Kids, Funder 35 and Fondazione del Monte di Bologna e Ravenna.

Sarah Mazzetti was born in Bologna in 1985. She works as an illustrator at international level for The New York Times, The New Yorker, The MIT Technology Review, Feltrinelli, Die Zeit and much more. She has received many awards for her work, like the Golden Medal from the Society of Illustrators of New York, the Golden Pen of Belgrade and one YCN Award. She drew comic strips for Linus, Kus! and Il Sole 24 Ore. She works as a freelancer , she teaches illustration at IED in Milan and she is the co-editor of  the self-publishing company Teiera.
