Set in a distopic not so distant future, Il regno animale (“The Animal Kingdom”) tells the story of humanity’s fight for survival in a scenario where perpetual migration is the only possible strategy to stay alive. Emanuele Giacopetti builds a dramatic contemporary story projected into an apparently post-apocalyptic future. By building a constant parallel between humanity and the many animal species described in the story, the author manages to subvert the canons of anthropocentrism, highlighting the misery, fragility and degradation of human beings beaten by their own kind, as opposed to the instinctive cleverness and dignity of other animal species.
